About us
Cornerstone is a young and dynamic church serving the city of Ōtautahi Christchurch. We have three Sunday meetings and a range of ministries to serve our city and make Christ known.
Who we are
We’re a whānau of believers who are humbled by the knowledge that we’ve been saved by our extraordinary God. He has shown us his love by dying for us, while we were still sinners. We have been saved and renewed by this news, and at Cornerstone, it is our goal to see lives transformed through Christ for the glory of God in the broader Ōtautahi area.
Our name — Cornerstone — comes from the conviction that lives need to be built on the only firm foundation; Jesus. We take Jesus seriously, so what we believe about him matters. We're evangelical in conviction, independent in governance, and linked in fellowship with like-minded churches across Aotearoa.
Our history
Cornerstone started in 2008 as ‘Campus Church’ with a group of like-minded Christians and backing from local churches, to start a Bible-centred church that would proclaim Jesus on campus and equip students for a lifetime of serving Jesus.
Five years later, the church had grown to the point of filling our venue and we started a community service in Riccarton, and in 2022 Fields Church began meeting in the Selwyn district. We’re now a church of around 400 across three campuses connected to a network of church plants across New Zealand.
Our church
We have a vision to see lives changed as people come to know who Jesus is. Sundays are when we unite in song, hear the Bible read and taught from, and where we spend time each week praying for the needs of our community and the world. We gather as an expression of commitment to God’s promises to us, as well as commitment to each other. We would love for you to join us in this, or for you to come and learn more about what we believe.
